After two weeks of close voting, we are excited to announce Rae Lewis-Thornton is the winner of this round of Our Town, Our Heroes!

Markeeda Spencer nominated Rae for Our Town, Our Heroes, describing her unwavering commitment to educating young people about HIV/AIDS and empowering them to take control of their health and lifestyle. She is a well-known and respected motivational speaker and author, courageously using her own story of struggle to help improve the lives of others.

Markeeda wrote in her nomination, “Rae leads her own unending crusade to educate and challenge audiences to take control of their own lives and health. Each day, Rae uses her personal life as an example that AIDS is a non-discriminatory disease and challenges the most common myths and stereotypes surrounding HIV. She uses her knowledge and celebrity to inspire others to make wise decisions about their lifestyles. Rae is a selfless hero who is on a mission to help save lives in a courageous, personal way.”

Congratulations Rae!

Both Rae and Markeeda will receive a one-week loan of a Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle. In addition, Rae will receive a $500 gift card with the challenge to keep driving positive change in her community.

Congratulations also go to our runner-up, Cindy Johnson, and her nominator, Aimee Grover. Both will receive one-week vehicle loans.

Thanks to all the nominators for sharing the stories of your heroes with us! We were truly inspired by the good work you’re doing in your communities.
