Chicago is infused with so much history and culture; we Windy City natives sometimes forget the little things that make our hometown so unique. Chicago is a beautiful city full of tourism, art and theatre attractions, but the following bits of trivia are what make this city truly different from any other.
- The roller skate was invented in 1884 in Chicago.
- The Chicago River is the only river in the world that flows backwards. It was reversed in the nineteenth century to flow away from Lake Michigan.
- Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, was named for the same person responsible for creating Wrigley chewing gum, William Wrigley Jr.
- The classic TV shows “Family Matters,” “Married with Children” and “The Bob Newhart Show” were filmed in and/or were set in Chicago.
These fun facts are but a few small reasons why I love the city I grew up in.
