Last week, the Driving the Midwest team ventured to Ulrich Motors in Washburn, Ill. to meet up with Our Town, Our Heroes winner Donald Pannier and deliver his hero package. Donald received a new Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD pickup truck to enjoy for a week as he travels across Illinois to display the Illinois Patriot Guard Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall.

Along with the new truck, we surprised Donald with a certificate of recognition, $100 AMEX gift card and $200 worth of gas cards to support Donald’s voyages across the state with the Illinois Patriot Guard Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall. Along with these surprises, Chevrolet treated Donald and a few recent heroes to a Chicago Cubs game where they were recognized as local heroes before the game.

Seeing the Memorial Wall firsthand and seeing the support from his family and friends was truly an inspiration. In his nomination, Mark Pleasant described Donald as a gold star dad who lost his son in Iraq and has since dedicated his time to traveling to different areas of Illinois to recognize fallen troops. Wherever Donald goes, he takes with him a sense of pride and good spirit and passes it to everyone around him.

Do you know someone who is an inspiration like Donald? Nominate your hero for the Our Town, Our Heroes program! Just fill out this brief nomination form and send it over to hero@drivingthemidwest.com.
