General Motors Recognizes Jes, Lisa and Joe as Hero Finalists

Our Town, Our Heroes

August 23, 2011 9:42 am CT

Can you believe we have named 10 hero winners to date? For this eleventh round of heroes, we are excited to announce three new finalists with remarkable stories.

We need your help naming hero number eleven! Read the nominations below and vote for the finalist who inspires you the most. At the end of the voting period, the finalist with the most votes will win a one-week loan of a new 2011 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle, as well as some surprises – all compliments of General Motors.

Jes Hockman from Mount Carroll, nominated by Elizabeth McMillin

Jes is a great neighbor. When a local resident and good friend ended up in the hospital, Jes came to the rescue by dropping everything to help out with the children and be there for support in a time of need. We should be taking notes from Jes on how to help others. This is just one of the many things that she has been a part of and made a difference in our community, and in so many other people’s lives. While one person might not be able to change the world, this one person has changed the world for so many people.

Lisa Stamos from Barrington, nominated by Angel Oakley

Lisa is a media trailblazer, creating publications that relate to the people of the community and give them pride for who they are. She is the founder of Quintessential Media, which includes publications like Quintessential Barrington, Quintessential New Trier and Quintessential America. By promoting community pride, Lisa creates a stronger bond between residents and encourages them to do good.

Joe Hill from Chicago, nominated by Randa Shin

Joe continually inspires every person he comes in contact with – from aunts to sisters to cousins, and even me – and encourages us to let go of doubts and strive for our dreams. He has worked for various charity groups supporting sick and underprivileged children. He’s lived a tremendously difficult life and has overcome so much adversity. He truly inspires everyone he meets.

Lisa Stamos has made an incredible impact in the communities that she serves with her magazines. Her sensitivity to the issues and her desire to share the good things that are happening in our communities is both inspiring and uplifting. I consider her to be a roll model and a mentor and I am even more pleased to call her my friend.

Vote for Joe HIll… his story is the only one that appears to be "heroic"… helping needy children he doesn't even know without personal gain. Clearly the only "right" choice here, imo.

There are many different types of heros in the world. All of the above are "heroic" in their own way. Charity work is not the only way to be a hero.
