Last week, we celebrated the Fourth of July and came together as a nation to show our American pride. Even though we are a nation united, there’s no harm in some friendly bragging about your home state.
Along with breathtaking architecture and beautiful countryside, we have much to brag about. Check out these cold, hard facts no other state can claim.
- Constructed in 1884, the Chicago’s Home Insurance Building is considered the world’s first skyscraper because of its unique architecture and weight-bearing frame.
- With more than 5,700 stores in 19 countries, Dairy Queen ice cream shop was founded in Joliet, Ill. in 1940.
- The first franchise of the iconic McDonald’s fast food chain was started in Des Planes, Ill.
- The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago is the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection.
