Memorial Day – A Hero’s Holiday

Memorial Day is a time to honor the ultimate sacrifice thousands of military men and woman have made in the name of freedom. Like many Americans, I celebrate this weekend with a family cookout and even a parade or two. It wasn’t until recently when I discovered a whole new reason to celebrate this day.
Last year, I had the opportunity to meet several military heroes through the Our Town, Our Heroes program. Some of them were military veterans while others supported the troops through organizations or had children in the military. While speaking with these individuals, I learned their stories of sacrifice and realized how fortunate I am.
This Memorial Day, whether you are heading to your town’s parade or relaxing at your family barbeque, don’t forget to remember those who gave their lives, and those still serving, so we may be free.
On behalf of the entire Driving the Midwest team, happy Memorial Day.
