We at Driving the Midwest have a special place in our hearts for those involved with our military. Not only are we thankful for active duty soldiers and veterans, but we also appreciate individuals who support our troops in different ways here on the home front.
It has been our honor to recognize military heroes such as Rochelle Crump and Donald Pannier, and more recently, Megan McDowell, our May 2012 hero winner who holds fundraisers and welcome home receptions for Illinois military servicemen and women. She also supported the families in her Family Readiness Group in Fort Sheridan, Illinois by sending boxes to every soldier in the unit while deployed.
In preparation for Veterans Day, we continue our commitment to the military by spotlighting supporters and veterans in the November round of Our Town, Our Heroes. We’re looking for Illinois residents with an unwavering support for our troops, whether through a local volunteer group or a nonprofit dedicated to serving those who fight for our country’s freedom. We want to know the unique ways people in your community are supporting our troops; perhaps it’s a neighbor who organized a bake sale benefitting a local deployment, a teacher who collects items for care packages or a grandmother who watches her grandkids while their parents are on base for the weekend.
We also wish to recognize military veterans who, after serving their country, continue to help others through veteran programs and community initiatives.
Tell us the story of your heroes who are military supporters* in the nomination form below. Share your nomination by Wednesday, October 31 and like us on Facebook to help spread the word!
