We’re thrilled to announced the second winner of the Our Town, Our Heroes program! All of our finalists had amazing stories that show why each and every one is a hero.
With more than 450 votes cast, the public has selected Estrella Rosenberg as the next Our Town, Our Heroes winner! We are happy to recognize Estrella and her work with Big Love Little Hearts and the One Hundred Squared event to drive awareness for congenital heart disease in children. Big Love Little Hearts is the first and only organization that matches children with congenital heart defects who need livesaving surgery, with the many generous organizations, surgeons and healthcare professionals who donate their time, talent and resources to perform these repairs for free. In order to help Estrella continue to do good in her community, she will receive a special “Hero Package” that includes a week-long loan of a brand new 2011 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle; all compliments of General Motors. We would like to thank all of Estrella’s supporters and their efforts to recognize someone who is making a difference and inspiring others in their community.
Read more about Estrella below and why she was nominated by her friend Michele Steinberg. Remember too, that we will be honoring local heroes throughout 2011. Nomination forms for the next round of finalists are due no later than April 8, 2011.
Estrella Rosenberg from Chicago, nominated by Michele Steinberg
Estrella has devoted herself to helping others – philanthropy is a way of life for her. She believes that “Giving is a part of who we are as humans…the act of giving, small or large, instills happiness in our hearts and allows us to effect positive change in an individual, an entire country or transform the world at large.” Inspiring stuff!
Estrella puts her philosophy into action as the founder of Big Love Little Hearts and One Hundred Squared. Big Love Little Hearts address a gap in the congenital heart defect community. This organization has saved the lives of over 300 children.
As if that wasn’t enough Estrella’s other organization One Hundred Squared is an advocacy and awareness project to support pulse-oximetry screening of newborns for heart defects.
When she’s not busy running these organizations, she’s a passionate advocate, volunteer and Board Member at many other charities and a loving mother.
Know someone like Estrella? We want to hear about your heroes! A hero can be anyone who is making a difference in his or her community. It can be a local firefighter or policeman, a soldier serving his country, a local volunteer donating her time and resources, and anyone else who makes a difference, whether big or small. Nominate them for the Our Town, Our Heroes program today! We would love to feature you and your hero on DrivingtheMidwest.com.
And remember, the winning hero of the next round of Our Town, Our Heroes – and his or her nominator – will also win passes to Chevy Youth Baseball Clinic at one of the major league stadiums in Chicago! Click here for more information.
